Project 365: Day 35

Things that Move

I’m not always so great at capturing things that move. I know with practice I will get better at this. Yesterday I worked on the “panning” technique and today I worked on showing movement.

Technical Info:
Camera: Canon Rebel T1i on a tripod
Exposure: 1/6 sec @ f/4
Focal Length: 24mm
ISO: 200
Date/Time: 02/03/10 @ 6:49pm

Cool- I was trying to show movement last week. Failed.
I have a rebel too. I see you have your setting listed. To be untechnical, where did you turn your dial on your camera to set the camera to these setting? I tried on every one and couldn't get this efffect. I set the ISO for 100 (maybe too low), but I couldn't figure out where to set the knob for exposure setting.
Maybe by Day 362, I won't be asking such a basic question.
  • Hi Lisa, I'd be happy to answer your question. On the Canon Rebel, you can go to "M"anual mode and just put in all the settings I have listed in this post. Basically to show movement you will want a slower shutter speed. Your camera has a Shutter Speed priority "AV" on the dial. You will set the shutter speed and the camera will automatically set the other settings for you. You will have to experiment with different shutter speeds to get the look you want.
I think I took about a dozen pictures of the ceiling alone and kept changing the shutter speed until I got the look I was going for.

Okay, I'm going to try again. I probably took 25 pictures. I'll let you know how it works out.
